After 18 years of service at Alco, Paul Delaney is retiring from his post as Commercial Director. Along with being a great mentor to many at Alco and an accomplished Salesman, Paul has been a great friend and colleague to all.
Paul’s journey at Alco began back in 1999 when he joined the Sales Department. Ever since he has worked hard towards raising Alco’s profile on both the national and international front. In addition, he has been instrumental in setting up many of our sales offices, including Asia Pacific where he worked hard to build a strong client base in the region.
We had one last chat with Paul and asked him about his time at Alco. He said, “It’s definitely been a journey. I’m very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel all over the world in the past eighteen years, not to mention some of the very hectic weeks of travel I have had to do. It has been a pleasure meeting people too.”
He continued to talk about his colleagues and said, “Some very special people have worked for me in the sales office and have been here for a long time. It’s brought me great joy mentoring people and see them grow from strength to strength. One of the best parts of my job was being able to reward people for their work. It’s more than just employing people, it’s the belief and trust you have that they can do the job.”
Paul expressed his joy about working at Alco by saying, “I’m very fortunate to have found a position where I have enjoyed coming to work and meeting my colleagues. I can definitely say I have loved working at Alco.”
In addition to Paul’s jovial personality, his nurturing and caring qualities have played a vital role in making him an influential mentor. Here are some of the things his team members had to say about him:
“A man full of humour and positive vibes that makes working with him easy and enjoyable.” – Mark Seah (General Manger, Asia Pacific)
“Paul's direction and friendship have been invaluable over the past 8 years. Sad to see this chapter end, but looking forward to hearing about his retirement adventures!” – Jamie Meade (General Manager, Houston)
“It has been a pleasure to work for Paul and during my 10 years at Alco Valves, he has been very supportive and encouraged me to grow with the company offering help and guidance all the way.” – Gail Allarton (Standard Products Team Supervisor)
Having travelled hundreds and thousands of air miles for business, Paul stated that travel is the one thing he won’t be doing during his retirement. He summarised his retirement plans with just three words – golf, gardening and grandchildren.
Paul has certainly been a great asset to the company and will be greatly missed by all at Alco. We truly appreciate all the years of work he has put into Alco and we wish Paul a very happy and relaxed retirement.
