The Alco Valves Group Ltd are delighted to announce that its XC range of Double Block and Bleed Valves is now qualified to a stringent emissions standard ISO 15848 Part-1
Why are emissions important :
The main source of fugitive emissions according to industry leading experts are from valves. At least 40% of leaks on site are from valve stems and therefore this can lead to health hazards and also environmental risk. Furthermore, this could have a legal liability and also not to forget the waste of the valuable product. This means operators must keep greenhouse gas and environmental regulations for fugitive emissions as a high priority and its extremely important to the oil and gas industry.
What is ISO 15848 qualification testing:
ISO 15848-1:2005 specifies testing procedures, for evaluation of external leakage of valve stem seals (or shaft) and body joints of isolating valves and control valves intended for application in volatile air pollutants and hazardous fluids
The Alco XC DBB valve.
The XC range of DBB Valves based on a ball, needle, ball configuration from 1/2" to 2" is used in instrument and pipeline application. However, when used in an instrument application the human interface is more prevalent and therefore the emissions from the DBB valve is even more critical due to health concerns. In order to reduce emissions and put safety first the Alco XC DBB valve is fully qualified to ISO 15848 Part 1, which ensures minimal emissions from the valve stems.
The Alco XC Fugitive Emission Test:
The XC range is tested to the ISO 15848 Part 1 procedure and witnessed by Lloyds under vacuum conditions over 205 mechanical cycles & thermal cycling conditions only using one adjustment during the test to ensure the valve packing performance through every single cycle.
Packings: Class A
The stem packing of the XC DBB valve achieved a class A tightness, at ambient, which is the most stringent qualification and did not exceed a leakage rate of 10-6 mg/(s*m) during the complete test. The test was completed over 1500 mechanical cycles and achieved a class A rating at class 2500lbs. Testing of these articles continued even after the this stage attaining a class B rating at the CO3 2500 cycle level and at 431 Bar.
Packings: Class B
The stem packing of the XC DBB valve achieved a class B tightness which did not exceed a leakage rate of 10-4 mg/(s*m) based on 205 cycles at -46 Deg C and +100 Deg C at class 2500lbs.
